MODICA BASSA (LOWER MODICA)

It expanded along the course of old torrents,still visible in the early twentieth century.
It represents the vibrant heart of the town, enriched with imposing baroque buildings
and monumental churches.
- Starting point in Modica Bassa (Lower Modica) in the “Falcone/Borsellino”
large square (bus stop).
- The conducted tour will start, on foot, through the alleys of the town.
- St. George’s Cathedral
- The Castle of the earls of Modica
- St. Maria of Betlem Church and Berlon’s lunette.
- Carmine Church.
- Lunch in a farm holiday or in a typical “trattoria” (restaurant).
- Then, you’ll go on with the visit of the low part of the town.
- Campailla Museum.
- St. Peter’s Church.
- Garibaldi Theatre.
- Local products tasting, offered by the cooperative society (chocolate made in Modica,
typical sweets, etc...).
- At that point, we’ll take leave of you. Departure.

1) MODICA ALTA (UPPER MODICA)

It is the oldest part of the town founded by the Arabs about the middle of the
IXth century A. D., it still keeps its striking “Casbah“ look mixed with late baroque and renaissance buildings.
Starting point in Modica Alta (Upper Modica) in “ Del Gesù” square (near the jail).
The conducted tour will start, on foot, through the alleys of the town.
- A stop on the hill called "Pizzo“, the panoramic point of the town.
- St. John’s Church.
- St. Teresa’s Church.
- St. Nicola and St. Erasmo’s Church.
- Castle of the earls of Modica.
- Lunch in a farm holiday or in a typical “trattoria” (restaurant).
Then yuo’ll go on visiting the town (Upper Modica).
- St. George’s Cathedral.
- St. Lucia (Lucy)’s Church.
- Flight of stairs called “ò ddicciu“.
- Local products tasting (chocolate made in Modica, typical sweets, etc.), offered
by the cooperative society.
- At that point one comes back to the “Del Gesù“ square.
- We’ll take leave of you. Departure.

2) MODICA ALTA (UPPER MODICA)

With the houses built on top of one another, along narrow and tortuous alleys
enriched with wonderful baroque churches and noble buildings.
Starting point in Modica Bassa (Lower Modica) in the “Falcone/Borselino”
large square. (bus stop).
The conducted tour will start on foot:
- St. George’s Cathedral;
- The Castle of the earls of Modica;
- “Napolino-Tommasi Rosso“ building;
- St. Michele (Michael)’s Church;
- Lunch in a farm holiday or in a typical “trattoria” (restaurant).
The visit of the town (Upper Modica) will go on with:
- St. Teresa’s Church;
- St. Antonio’s Church;
- Votive aedicule of the “Ordeal“;
- St. John’s Church;
- A stop on the hill “Pizzo“, the highest panoramic point of the town;
- Local products tasting (chocalate made in Modica, typical sweets, etc.),
offered by the cooperative society;
- You’ll go up till “Del Gesù“ square (near the jail) or you’ll reach the departure point through some alleys and striking stairs;
- We’ll take leave of you. Departure.
